This may be the biggest lesson of all. Before hiring a roofing contractor, ask:
Roofing
- How many layers are being removed?
- What shingles are being installed?
- What underlayment is included?
- Is ice-and-water protection included, and how many layers will be installed?
- What happens if the decking is damaged?
- How will flashing be handled?
- How will the valleys be protected: metal valleys, ice-and-water membrane underneath, or both?
- How will ventilation be handled, including reconnecting bathroom and kitchen exhaust vents correctly?
Pricing
- What is the total price?
- What could cause the price to change?
- Will additional work require my approval?
Warranty
- What does the workmanship warranty cover?
- What does the manufacturer warranty cover?
- Who do I contact if I have a problem?
Project
- When will the work start?
- How long should it take?
- Who is my project contact?
- How is the property protected?
- How is cleanup handled?
- Will there be a final walkthrough?
